Artica offers several backup features. They do not protect the same thing: snapshots save the configuration of the appliance, while other features save data (databases, logs, web sites) or a single set of objects. This page lists them and tells which one to use.
| You want to… | Use |
|---|---|
| Rebuild a server, or roll back its settings | Artica Snapshots |
| Keep the configuration outside the data center (disaster recovery) | Snapshots to Azure Blob storage, or snapshots to a NAS |
| Move a whole appliance to new hardware | Server Migration |
| Keep the statistics and events data | PostgreSQL backups |
| Keep the access logs for legal reasons | Log Sink backups, legal logs storage |
| Copy a few rules to another server | The import / export features listed at the end of this page |
A snapshot is a container that stores all the settings of an Artica server: parameters, SQLite databases, PostgreSQL tables, LDAP directory, certificates. It can be created manually or on a schedule, restored on the same server, or restored on another Artica server to duplicate or rebuild it. A snapshot can be encrypted with a passphrase and copied to a remote storage.
These features copy one set of objects between servers. They are not a backup of the appliance: use a snapshot for that.
