Quite often, when you publish an Extranet site for your users, such as a CMS or WebMail or Web production software, your users use these sites on a localized basis in known and limited territories.
The purpose of this feature is to prevent access to browsers from countries listed as forbidden ( The reverse-proxy returns a 444 HTTP error code)
This feature is available on Artica v4.50 Service Pack 1 or v4.50 Hotfix 20231031-16
¶ A) Activate the geolocation module
Artica supports the Maxmind free and commercial database in order to provide information of a given public IP address.
This module is used by other services hosted by Artica, so you need to use the Feature Center to activate it.
¶ B) Reconfigure the reverse-proxy service
When the geolocation module is installed and the databases are up to date, you can see the geolocation widget in yellow, marked "Missing".
This indicates that the reverse-proxy service is not yet configured to use this module.
- Click on the reconfiguration button to set it up.
- If reconfiguration is successful, a green widget will be displayed and you can proceed to the step for limiting access to websites
¶ C) Create rules on your reverse-proxy websites.
- on the main table of your Websites, select the web site you want to limit.
- Click on the grey line “Countries (Deny)”
- Turn on the main section by clicking on the Inactive button
- Select countries you want to deny.
- Click on Apply button to make the rule in production mode.
