Artica can be your router or a intermediate gateway with multiple interfaces.
According to the Artica Open Source Edition, you can use your Artica server act as a gateway for free of charge.
Especially if you want to use your Artica server as a transparent Proxy.
¶ The need ?
Sometimes it is interesting to have a simplified gateway to interconnect several networks.
There is a lot of software available to accomplish this task, but many of them are complex to implement.
They focusing mainly on firewall settings and you need to pass all firewall sections to make networks communicating correctly.
Software such as untangle, pfsense, opnsense, Zeroshell, and ClearOS are perfect for this task, but their setup is complex.
You have to go before through the firewall stages to get into a simple routing system.
¶ Strip your Artica server
As we only want only connectivity tasks, we will strip our Artica appliance of all excessive features and turn it into a single gateway.
Use the following article which relates the use of the Gateway Wizard.
¶ Define your Interface as main gateway
- As you can see in “Network Interfaces”, the status Act as gateway is active
- If it is your first setup, the network Interface that serves your second network is not active and yellow. click on it
- Define the name and zone of your Network interface.
- set the gateway of this interface as 0.0.0.0 that means this Interface as no gateway and able to forward TCP packets to the main Interface that have the default gateway.
- Now you can associate a DHCP service and/or create an ARP Bridge with your network Interface
