By default, Windows and web browsers periodically connect to specific HTTP sites.
These websites respond with minimal content — their only purpose is to verify that the browser has Internet access.
This option intercepts those requests and informs the device that a web authentication page is required.This option is optional, but it enhances the user experience when building a Hotspot service with Artica.
This feature is available with v4.50 Service Pack 6 or in v4.50 Service Pack 5 Hotfix 20251112-01
On the HotSpot > Parameters, the option is called “Captive Portal Detection Urls"
When you enable this option, Artica performs the following actions:
- Modifies its DNS (the DNS cache service)
so that test site addresses such as msftconnecttest.com, clients3.google.com, connectivitycheck.gstatic.com, etc. point to the Hotspot.
- Enables port 80
on the Hotspot to receive these browser requests and redirect them to the Hotspot’s authentication page.
- Activates WISPr
(Wireless Internet Service Provider roaming), allowing Windows systems to notify users that a login is required.
To use this feature, make sure that port 80 is free and available on the machine.
