Google OAuth rejects bare IP addresses in redirect URIs — they require a domain with a valid public TLD.
This is a fundamental constraint for captive portals that typically bind to local IPs.
The fix is to let the admin configure a FQDN-based redirect URI (e.g. http://wifi.articatech.com:8026/google-callback).This feature has been enhanced in Artica v4.50 Service Pack 7 or Artica v4.50 Service Pack 6 Hotfix 20260324-02
¶ Create a Google Cloud Project
- Go to the Google Cloud Console
- Click Select a project at the top, then New Project
- Enter a project name (eg Hotspot Auth) and click Create
- Make sure the new project is selected
¶ Enable the Required APIs
- In the left sidebar, go to
APIs & Services > Library
- Search for and enable these APIs:
- Google Identity Services (or Google+ API )
- Google People API (optional, for profile info)
¶ Configure the OAuth Consent Screen
- Go to
APIs & Services > OAuth consent screen - Select External user type (allows any Google account to sign in), then click Create or use the Wizard
- Fill in the required fields:
- App name: Your hotspot portal name (e.g. WiFi Portal)
- User support email Your admin email
- Developer contact email: Your admin email
- External as the Audience
- Click Create
- Go to
Clients > create client
- Set Application type to Web application
- Enter a name (e.g. Hotspot Web Client)
- Under
Authorized redirect URIs, add your hotspot callback URL end with (/google-callback):
- Click on create, copy the Client ID and Client secret or download the json file
- Your Client is added in the table
- On the Data Access page, click Add or Remove Scopes
- In Manually add scopes: and add:
openid, email, profile

Configure the Artica Hotspot
- On the left menu, click on the HotSpot icon.
- Down to Authentication section
- Click on Google Auth link
- Turn On the enable The feature option
- Set the Client ID
- Set the Secret Key
- Put the same redirect url defined in the Google Cloud console.
- When members are redirected to the HotSpot, they can use the Google tab and click on Sign in with Google button
