Using Specific DNS servers in reverse-proxy brings several benefits, especially in dynamic environments where backend services or external resources may change IP addresses frequently.
Specific DNS servers enable the reverse-proxy to dynamically resolve domain names to IP addresses.
This is particularly useful for services that might change IPs frequently or for environments like cloud services where elasticity is a key feature
- Real-time Updates: By resolving domain names in real time (or according to the TTL of DNS records), the reverse-proxy can immediately adapt to changes in the IP addresses of backend servers without requiring a reload of the service.
- Failover: In configurations where multiple backend servers are specified by domain names, dynamic resolution can help with automatic failover.
If one server becomes unreachable, subsequent DNS resolutions can direct traffic to alternative servers. - Load Distribution: When DNS-based load balancing is used (for example, when a domain name resolves to multiple IP addresses), the reverse-proxy can distribute requests across several servers, enhancing the reliability and scalability of your application.
